The Nikon L35AF, affectionately known as the "Pikaichi" in Japan, is a fully automatic 35mm compact camera from 1983 with an exceptionally bright Nikon 35mm f/2.8 lens, which was unprecedentedly sharp for a point-and-shoot at the time. It is one of the most highly regarded compact cameras of the 1980s, loved for its robust metal construction and reliable autofocus. Compact enough to disappear into a jacket pocket, yet serious enough for any photographic situation, from street photography to vacation snapshots. This particular example is in very good condition.

Description

What makes this camera unique?

The f/2.8 lens is what sets the L35AF apart from most compacts of its time. In low light, it performs where other point-and-shoots fall short. Combined with the reliable autofocus and automatic exposure system, this is a camera you can just pick up and shoot with, without thinking.

A piece of history

Upon its introduction, the Nikon L35AF was immediately hailed as one of the best compact cameras on the market. Nikon managed to do something unusual: build an almost professional-quality lens into a fully automatic body. In Japan, it was nicknamed "Pikaichi," which means something like "absolute top-tier." Forty years later, that reputation is still intact, and demand in the second-hand market is accordingly high.
